Jango User guide - Manage Pages/Pages
 |
 |
 |
 |
The manage pages menu item allows the administrator
to create, edit and delete custom pages within Jango. These pages
are organised to form the main structure of your site. The pages can be uploaded
from existing HTML or text documents, or they can be created within
Jango itself. |

In Jango, a 'Page' is a content object and as such can be organised, published,
unpublished, archived or un-archived. It can contain text, HTML, XML, JavaScript,
URL links, images or other media. A page cannot contain server-parsed scripts
such as PHP as the code has already been executed by the server prior to drawing
it in the user's web browser.
When you first open the 'Pages' section, you will see there are two modes to
work in: Site structure mode and search
mode.
Site structure mode allows you to see the pages as they relate to the menu
structure. The menu structure is a plan of your website. Search mode allows
you to search for specific pages, regardless of their position in the site
or category.
To create a new page, click 'New' from the top menu.
Own content would be used to create a new page from scratch; this will include writing any html code that is needed and inserting any images manually.
Click on 'Own content' to start creating new content pages.
- Enter the 'Title' and 'Display Title' for the new page.
- Choose whether you would like the page to open in the same window or a new window when the link is clicked
on.
- Select where the link is to be located in the menu tree. Check the box labeled
'Place page at top level' and it will make the link appear in the main menu. If another page is checked,
the new page will become a sub page. The name of the link will be determined by what was entered
in the 'Display Name' field. Click on the next button to continue.
- Now you need to select the group(s) that will be able to view the page. Groups that
are not included will not be able to view the page at any time. To assign a group, click on the group you want
and click on the '>>' button. The opposite applies to remove a group from being included. Once finished click
on 'Save', to save your work.
- The HTML Editor will appear allowing for the structure and content of the page to be added. The
Asset Manager will help in adding any image collections, plugins etc to the page. Alternatively all images can be uploaded and inserted
using the html editor.
- Click on 'Preview' at anytime to view the progress of the page. When you are happy with how the page looks, click on 'Save'.
Note: This page will need to be published before it is visible in the front end of the site
To return to the main page, click on 'Return to pages' located at the top left of screen. Do not click on the Return/ Back button on your navigation bar to return to main page.
- Click on save to continue. Now it is time to select the group(s) that can view the page. Those groups that
are not included will not be able to view the page at any time. To assign a group, click on the group you want
and click on the '>>' button. The opposite applies to remove a group from being included. Once finished click
on 'Save'
Creating a new page using the weblink function allows for pages that are already on the internet/network to be
linked directly and used by Jango. To create a new page via weblink, you have to do the following:
- Click on 'Weblink' after selecting to create a new page. A new screen will load up.
- Type in the Title and Display Title.
- Enter the URL of the link (Be sure to include 'http://' if appropriate).
- All weblinks appear in a new window. There are two options available for how these windows appear. The
first is 'Open without browser navigation' and the other is 'Open with browser navigation'. The only difference
between the two is, the one with browser navigation will have a toolbar while the other won't. Select which
one you want.
- Select where the link is to be located in the menu tree. Check the box labeled
'Place page at top level' and the link will appear in the main menu. If another page is checked, the new page will become a subpage of that page. The name of the link will be determined by what was entered
in the 'Display Name' field. Click on the next button to continue.
- Next you need to select the group(s) that will be able to view the page. After selecting the
appropriate group(s) click on 'Save'.
Note: This page will need to be published before it is visible in the front end of the site
To publish the page, click on publish at the top of the page. To return to the main pages page, click on 'Return to pages' located at the top left of screen.Do not click on the Return/ Back button on your navigation bar to return to menu page.
Editing an existing page is a simple task. The first thing to realise it that, not all pages can have their
content edited. The home page for example can not be edited through this area. To alter what the home page
looks like it will be necessary to change what Inpage Elements are being shown.
To change the colour scheme or structure of the page the template will need to be edited.
Any page that has been created since the installation of Jango may be edited. To edit a page:
- Click on the name of the page you wish to edit.
- A new window will load with the HTML Editor. Details that may be edited here include:
- Name
- Display Name
- HTML code via the editor or source view. Asset Manager can also be used
to help alter the code.
- Groups - The groups that can access the page can be altered by clicking on 'Group' in the top left
hand corner. Alter the groups and click on save to be returned to the original page.
- Page location - The page location can be altered by checking a new box in the menu structure.
- Click on 'Save' to update the database with any changes made.
Note: This page may need to be published before it is visible in the front end of the site depending on
whether it was published before editing
To delete a page make sure that you are on the Main Page screen. Check the box next to the page(s) that are to
be removed and click on 'Delete'
